U.S. targets smuggling of bladders from endangered fish

The bladders of the totoaba macdonaldi fish are smuggled across the border from Mexico, with each organ fetching $5,000 on the U.S. black market and over $10,000 in Asia, federal prosecutors said. The fish is found in the Gulf of California between the Mexican mainland and Baja California. ...

Philips targets office market with new LED light

Royal Philips NV is set to unveil a new light Thursday that it claims will replace the fluorescent tube lamps that are common in many offices around the world. In an interview with The Associated Press ahead of the unveiling of the new lamp Thursday, Rene van Schooten, a top executive at the company, said the lamp will save energy and money as well as cut pollution.(AP Photo/Philips, HOAMSTERDAM (AP) — Almost anybody who works in an office has grown accustomed to the glow of fluorescent tubes providing light from overhead. Now Royal Philips NV says it has developed a working prototype of a lamp it says will confine the fluorescent bulb to the recycling bin of history.
